We have 332 standard rooms (with a single bed) and 154 premium rooms (with a small double bed).

All blocks feature common rooms with comfortable chairs and a large plasma-screen television.
Each room has en-suite facilities.
There are on-site laundry facilities, internet access in every room, and a secure reception staffed 24 hours a day.

There are on-site laundry facilities, internet access in every room, and a secure reception staffed 24 hours a day. We have a mixture of single gender and mixed gender flats on site, which are clustered around an attractive central courtyard.  

All residents have access to a common room with comfortable seating and a large plasma-screen television, where students can relax and meet friends.

How to get here

A local bus service, running every 20 minutes, serves the halls and drops off right outside the university’s main entrance. View a map of the local area (PDF) with public transport information. There are bicycle storage facilities on site, and limited parking is also available.

Parking is allocated on a ballot basis if the number of students requesting parking is greater than the number of spaces available. The ballot takes place after the main arrivals weekend in September. For further details, please contact our estates team.

In your study bedroom, you’ll find:

For your bedroom:

  • quilt/duvet

For the bathroom:

  • toilet cleaner.

For the kitchen:

  • saucepans

  • cutlery

  • plates and bowls

  • mugs and drinking glasses

  • washing up liquid and dishcloth

  • dishwasher tablets. 

Remember any electrical items must be portable appliance tested (PAT). If your items are not already tested, this will be done on site. We will notify you when this will happen, and you must make your equipment available for inspection.

You are not permitted to use your own cooking equipment (including toaster or kettle) in your bedroom. All kitchen equipment must be used in the kitchen. Personal fridges are not permitted in bedrooms, unless approval has been given by Student Accommodation and Welfare Advisor, such as for a medical reason.

Please do not bring any candles or incense with you – these are not permitted in halls.

Information for students with disabilities

Horton Halls is wheelchair accessible, and we also provide for students with other disabilities or underlying health conditions. We endeavour to cater to those with particular access needs.

Please contact our Disability Advisor to discuss any medical conditions or disability which may affect your accommodation needs. You will be asked to provide supporting medical evidence to support any application for an adapted room.

Whatever your circumstances, our accommodation team will support you to find a comfortable place to stay.

Subsequent years of study 

If you are a student in a subsequent year with a disability or health condition, you are eligible to apply for accommodation. If you think you will continue to require accommodation in Horton Halls, you should contact the Disability Advisor at your earliest convenience. They will require medical evidence to support your application and make appropriate recommendations.

Show flats

We have a show flat in Horton Halls, which is used on open days and offer holder days throughout the year, as an opportunity for prospective students and visitors to view the university accommodation.

Students can apply to be offered a room in the show flat. If you are living in one of these rooms, you will be required to keep the flat and your bedroom clean and tidy before and during the visits.

Students in the show flat will show their room on average for 2-3 events per year, and the communal areas of the flat will be shown for each event. They will receive a discount on their accommodation fees in exchange for showing their room and/or flat.

If you are allocated a room in a show flat, you will be asked to sign a contract with further details and will be provided with the dates of the event days.
