St George's and City have merged. Find out more.

We are striving to develop the research leaders of tomorrow through nurturing and retaining talent, providing tailored training and personal development programmes. We will engage with our research community to deepen our understanding of the issues and barriers they face, so that together we can develop what is needed to achieve an excellent research culture, where everyone thrives.

Help us to develop our vision for a strong, diverse and inclusive research culture which supports the University’s efforts to promote equal opportunities, and values and respects all who contribute to St George’s success.

Ways we will break through barriers

We will break through barriers by:

  • recruiting, nurturing, and retaining diverse talent, ensuring their voices help to actively shape the trajectory of our research endeavours
  • recognising the various career pathways into research and ensuring a clear route to progression for all who support and participate in research
  • better signposting of training and personal development opportunities
  • developing and implementing a co-designed approach to providing opportunities for our Early Career Researchers
  • providing opportunities for mentorship and sponsorship
  • developing more transparent recognition and promotion procedures
  • supporting mental health and wellbeing with information on accessing support and awareness training
  • providing links to the wider infrastructure that supports, facilitates and engages researchers to achieve the best research, including Joint Research and Enterprise Services, the Imaging Resource Facility and the Clinical Research Facility.
