Induction for new students consists of three parts: the Get Started at St George’s 2023 online induction module, live online events and on-site induction.

On-site induction

Incoming students will be invited on to campus to collect their student ID card, have an introduction to your course and the university, and to meet with Occupational Health if needed. Students should expect to be on campus for at least a couple of days in their first week. Freshers activities will be happening at the same time so you may wish to be on campus much more often than that.

Start dates for onsite induction are as follows:

Students' Union freshers events

As well as all the Induction activities and course sessions, there's a huge range of Students' Union activities happening in the first week. Don't forget the Freshers Fair from 10:00-16:00 on Monday 25 September!  At the Fair you'll meet all the Students' Union Clubs, Societies and Community Organisations and sign up to take part.

Attending Onsite Induction

Please aim to arrive at St George’s approximately 10-15 minutes before your first session. You will receive an email telling you which group you are in and what time to arrive.

It's sometimes easier to come through the hospital to the university rather than walking all the way around. There is also a pedestrian gate to the grounds on Coverton Road—please refer to the map below.

You will be met by one of the team at the university entrance and directed to your session.

You may need to queue outside before entering the university buildings. As the British weather can be unpredictable, please be sure you are prepared for eventualities.

You must complete online enrolment before attending, you will receive information regarding this from the Admissions team. Please make sure you bring photo ID (e.g. passport or driving licence) with you.

The team from our Student Life Centre will be hosting weekly drop in sessions online right through the induction period.  If you have any questions about money, housing, disability or anything else about preparing for your course, just pop by and ask.  Sessions start on Wednesday 23 August and will be held from 12-1 pm every Wednesday in September. Links to each event appear in the online induction module. You’ll need your St George’s username and password to join.

Get Started at St George’s 2023 online induction module

Much of our induction content for new students is our Get Started at St George’s online module. All undergraduate students, as well as students on the Physician Associate MPAS, Physiotherapy (pre-registration) MSc and Occupational Therapy (pre-registration) MSc courses must complete the online module within a fixed period as a condition of enrolling on the course.

You’ll need to use your new St George's login to use the canvas module. Please wait until you’ve been invited to set up your network account before registering.

  • Early starters (Physician Associate MPAS, MBBS Medicine (graduate entry), Physiotherapy (pre-registration) MSc, and Occupational Therapy (pre-registration) MSc) should complete the module by Monday 18 September.
  • All other undergraduate courses should complete the module by Monday 16 October.

The Get Started Module consists of:

  • Welcome
  • Student Safety and Support, including Health and Safety, Fitness to Practice, Sexual Consent and Bystander Action and information on support services
  • Learning Support, the Library Induction

The main goal of induction is to make sure that you're set up for your studies and that you're starting to feel part of the university and our community. If at any point you are struggling or unsure please read our Wellbeing section or contact the Student Life Centre.
