This week, Deputy Principal (Institutional Affairs) Professor Deborah Bowman shares her thoughts in a new video about remote working, ethical acts in our everyday and support for staff at St George's during the Covid-19 pandemic.

In the video, Deborah talks about her experiences of loss, shielding and being supported by her colleagues. She also reflects on the inspiration she has found in the St George's community and invites colleagues to get involved in upcoming Thrive events.

Health and safety update - all staff

During the period of extended lockdown St George’s wants to continue to provide help to ensure the health, safety and wellbeing of their staff working from home. In this regard we are asking all staff to retake the Britsafe online DSE assessment for their home working environment. Any issues you highlight will be directed to your line manager and the Safety Health and Environment (SHE) office for further advice, discussion and reasonable adjustment. Help and advice on DSE can be found here.

Only staff who have been furloughed and those who have already completed the homeworking checklist and sent it to their line manager do not need to complete the DSE assessment.

The Britsafe online DSE assessment can be accessed via this link and by logging on using your single St George’s sign on.

Please complete the assessment by the end of May.

Line managers

All line managers should ensure that they have logged onto the Britsafe system via the link above. This is so that they can be notified if their staff raise issues on their DSE assessments.

Staff DSE assessments will be sent to line managers and the SHE office if problems are highlighted. Line managers should discuss issues with staff to find solutions and/or work with the SHE team via health@sgul.ac.uk on other adjustments. Help and advice for line managers can be found in the guidance section of the training page.

Latest student communication

As mentioned in George’s Weekly previously, during the current Covid-19 disruption, we will be sending all staff a brief email to alert them when a message is sent to all students. We hope this will help you as staff to keep up to date with communications sent to our students at this time. Copies of all previous messages sent to students and the latest FAQs relating to Covid-19 can be found on the website.

The week’s student briefing email has just been sent. This includes a video message from SU President, Omar Hijazi, sharing his advice on wellbeing during lockdown, a message from Professor Jane Saffell, Deputy Principal (Education) and further information on student support, online learning resources and graduation.  You can read it here.
