From March 2020, many university staff have been working remotely. On this page, we’ve put together some resources to help with adjusting to the change. From essential resources and setting up your desk, to keeping social and maintaining your mental health, look below. View all Close all
Essential Resources
Remote Desktop

My Desktop gives you access to your your SGUL computer remotely from your browser, allowing you to use SGUL programmes and access files on your personal drive. It is necessary to log into My Desktop to use finance systems like Agresso. To go to My Desktop click here.

Setting up your Desk and Computer

There are many things you can do to ensure that your workspace is comfortable and ergonomic, and that you have access to the resources you need. St George’s Health and Safety team have created this page to help you get your home workstation set up.

IT Support

St George’s IT Services have their own guide to working from home support which can be viewed here. The page covers passwords, installing software on your PC, data protection, and other topics.

E-Learning

We are all adapting to online teaching, and the e-Learning Team have a number of resources available. CIDE and CTiE have created the Team Education exchange online, a forum where best practice for teaching online can be exchanged by all academics. Click here to join.

There are also webpages here on the Online Education Framework, giving information on how teaching should be delivered online. Quick guides on different tools such as Panopto, MS Teams and so on can be found here on Canvas. Information on the pedagogy for different teaching styles can be found here.

Equipment

If you need to order essential equipment for your home workspace, please contact Jolanta Jeromina.

Keeping Social
Education Events Calendar

The Education Events Calendar keeps a record of all the events happening across education – from random chat sessions and work socials, to lectures and workshops, the calendar will keep you up to date. To access the calendar, go to the top bar in the Outlook calendar display, and click ‘add’ > ‘From Address Book’ and search Education Events.

Regular Event – Pay Day Lunch

Pay-Day events have been held on the 27th of every month (give or take a few days). Usually what happens is that we pick a local restaurant and go for lunch together; sadly we can not do this anymore.

To keep us connected, we are going to continue the Pay-Day lunch tradition from home via Microsoft Teams. This will involve a few people volunteering to ‘host’ a small group of up to six people over the lunch hour. Details of upcoming events can be found in the Education Events calendar.

Staying Healthy
General Health and Wellbeing

St George’s has distributed some general health and wellbeing advice relevant to COVID19, with advice on isolating, symptoms etc, which can be found here.

Health and Safety

Health and safety advice and training can be found here.

Mental Health

Regular mindfulness workshops are run by Julia Hutchinson on Wednesday lunchtimes – you can join the Mindfulness Group team here. The Open Spaces programme often features mindfulness events and activities, view the Open Spaces events here.

Returning to Site
The Return to Site project has been launched to ensure a safe and secure recommissioning of services on campus. St George’s will, subject to further local or government announcements, continue to offer essential on-site teaching as scheduled. You can read more about the principals of the return and what you need to do before going back here.
