The GREAT Scholarship 2024 programme, launched by the British Council together with 49 UK universities, supports postgraduate students from around the world to access world-class UK higher education opportunities.

The scholarship programme offers financial support of a minimum of £10,000 to students pursuing one-year postgraduate study in the UK.

The GREAT Scholarship and St George’s, University of London

In partnership with the British Council and the GREAT Britain Campaign, St George’s University of London is offering 1 scholarship to students in India applying for postgraduate courses. 

We are offering a total of 1 scholarship of £10,000 to students from India:

  • 1 x £10,000 Scholarship to a student from India applying to one of the courses below;

Please note: you must be a passport holder of India to apply for this scholarship.

How and when to apply for a postgraduate scholarship

There is no separate application process to apply. If you are a passport holder of India applying for a taught postgraduate Master’s course as listed above, you will be automatically considered for the scholarship, provided you submit your course application by the deadline below.

Deadline for application to course to be considered for GREAT Scholarship: 1 May 2024.

Interviews

For some of these courses you may be invited to an in-person or virtual panel interview, which will form part of the scholarship criteria (see Eligibility and Assessment Criteria below).

Eligibility and assement criteria

To be eligible for a scholarship you must: 

  1. Have made an application for one the postgraduate Master’s course listed above, for full-time study, by the deadlines stated above 
  2. Not already be qualified at a Master’s level or above (e.g. PhD) 
  3. Be self-funding your course fees or in receipt of a tuition fee loan (courses funded by the NHS or students receiving employer or sponsor funding are not eligible)  
  4. Have, or be predicted, a 2:1 or above or international equivalent  
  5. Be a passport holder of India

 The Scholarship Committees will consider and score each application based on your: 

  1. Degree classification 
  2. Personal statement 
  3. References  
  4. Interview (where there is one)
How the scholarship funds are paid

The scholarship funds are paid as a partial or full (depending on your course) reduction in your tuition fee.

For example, if your Master’s fee is £24,000 and the scholarship amount is £10,000 - then your tuition fee will be reduced to £14,000.

Key dates
  1.  You need to have applied for one of our taught postgraduate courses by the deadline of 1 May 2024
  2. If interviews take place they will be held between TBC
  3. Successful applicants will be contacted before TBC

Please note

You must ensure your course application is completed and submitted by the deadline in order to be considered. This means your application must contain all relevant supporting documentation required by the programme applied to, such as your references contact detail, transcripts, and English language test results. 

Your referees will be contacted at the point of submission, so we encourage you to apply before the deadline in order for us to obtain your references in time. Alternatively, you will need to request for your referees to complete their reference for you on the same day as you submit your application.
