St George's referenced as example of best practice in BMA Racial Harassment Charter Review

The British Medical Association (BMA) recently published their Racial Harassment Charter Review. The review summarises the attempts of medical faculties in Higher Education to implement the BMA’s racial harassment charter. Within the review, two of the initiatives St George’s have implemented to this end are specifically referenced.
The first is the formation and work of the Race Equality Action and Engagement Group which aims to track the progress of the race equality action plan, which addresses issues affecting representation, progression and success amongst Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic staff and students at St George’s.
The second was a survey on racial harassment within clinical placements conducted by the University and the work which followed with placement providers to ensure that findings were acted upon.
Ban Haider, Associate Dean for Culture and Development, said of the BMA recognition, “It’s great that the work of St George’s staff and students around race equality is being recognised as among the best practice in the sector by the BMA. As a University, we are committed to tackling discrimination in all its forms and we will continue to strive for an equitable experience for all members of our community.”
