Library membership is available to all staff and students of St George’s, University of London, to selected staff working for the NHS in South West London, and to external members. Select your group below to check your eligibility and borrowing rights.

St George’s students, staff and alumni
Students

Students will get automatic access to the library. The will be entitled to borrow up to 15 items.

Staff

Staff will need to register to get access to the library. The will be entitled to borrow up to 15 items*.

Alumni

Alumni will need to register with the library during staffed hours, from 8am to 5pm, Monday to Friday. You will need to bring your alumni card. Alumni visitors have reference access only to the books and print journals.

 

* Honorary staff will have reference access only.

NHS staff

Staff working in the following trusts will be able to register and get full access*:

  • St. George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (including community-based and associated social care staff)

  • South West London and St. George's Mental Health Trust

  • Wandsworth CCG and GP practice staff in Wandsworth**

  • The Royal Trinity Hospice
  • National Blood Service South Thames (limited loans).

Once registered, staff from the above organisations will be provided walk-in access to the university networked computers for in-library access to university subscribed content. Ask a member of library staff for furthe details.

Free reference access to the library is available to:
  • Public Health staff in Wandsworth

  • Staff from Croydon Health Services, Kingston Hospital NHS Trust, Epsom & St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust

  • St George's Clinical Observers

  • honorary appointments within St. George's, University of London and the Trust

  • students and academic visitors based within St George's and the Trust for less than four weeks

  • staff from the South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAMB)
  • NHS Sutton and Merton

  • NHS Richmond

  • NHS Croydon

  • NHS Kingston.

Visitors
The university is closed to visitors at weekends and after 6pm during the week.

Access outside these times is available to visitors but they must register at the Library Helpdesk during staffed hours, from 8am to 6pm, Monday to Friday, and pay a fee.

Admission to the library is at the discretion of the Associate Director of Information Services and subject to the following conditions:

  • visitors must fill in all parts of the admission form legibly.

  • visitors must show some identification (institutional ID, driving licence or bank card).

  • visitors must be 18 years old or over.

  • visitors have access to print-based information resources, photocopying facilities and the online library catalogue only.

  • use of the photocopier is available to visitors during staffed hours only (8am to 6pm).

  • visitors must observe the library rules and regulations.

Visitors and external members do not have access to the library's computing facilities due to licensing restrictions.

SCONUL Access for visitors from other universities

Visitors must apply for SCONUL Access via the SCONUL website.

Once you have received the confirmation email from your institution, you need to bring it to St George's Library Helpdesk along with a valid university ID card. The Library Helpdesk staffed opening hours are Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm.

Access cards can only be issued between 9am and 5pm.
