Most people tend to use email to send attachments. However, email is not specifically designed for file transfer or file storage and should not be used for this purpose.

We would recommend you use one of the options below rather than using email to circulate files. Please contact IT/AV Support if you would like advice on which option will best suit your needs.

OneDrive

You can use OneDrive to make files available to colleagues within St George’s and also with those outside the university. Simply log into your Outlook Web App (OWA) and click on the OneDrive tab. If you need help with using OneDrive, please contact the helpdesk.

St George’s website

If you wish to make a file or document available to St George’s staff and/or students, you are advised to upload the file to the website and then circulate the link to the file rather than the actual file itself. For help with uploading files or documents to the site please contact the helpdesk

iDrop

St George’s file upload service, iDrop, allows St George’s users to make files available to other staff and students as well as to external colleagues. It can also be used by colleagues outside the institution to send files to St George’s users.

Although there are no restrictions on the number of files you can upload, you will be limited to a maximum total file size of 40Mb per upload session.
