In June 2020, St George’s committed to undertaking an institution-wide review of race equality, reviewing the work in place already and identifying recommendations for action to address racial inequalities across the organisation. This was prompted by open letters from our students and staff following the killing of George Floyd and the subsequent Black Lives Matter protests. This Review was commissioned and supported by our Principal and the Senior Leadership Team. It took a collaborative and consultative approach, hearing from our students and staff on what actions and developments they would like to see.

As part of this Review, following recommendations from our staff and students, we commissioned an external consultancy to provide an additional evaluation of race equality at the institution from an external perspective.

The Review concluded in January 2021 and the final report of the Institutional Review of Race Equality (PDF) was presented to our Executive Board, this includes a series of comprehensive recommendations for action. This was accompanied by an external report from SUMS Consultancy (PDF).

A new Race Equality Action and Engagement Group has formed to oversee the implementation of the recommendations for action, to monitor progress and impact.
