Lifting of some restrictions on 8 March 2021

As announced by the government, from 8 March, Universities can resume in-person teaching and learning for undergraduate and postgraduate students who are studying practical or practice-based subjects and require specialist equipment and facilities.

At St George’s, as a university focused on health and science, the majority of our programmes have already been able to return to site this term. In light of this, there is no immediate change to the University's current working arrangements after the 8 March. Our teaching and research continue as at present, with any on-site activities conducted in Covid secure ways.

We are continuing to deliver online education activities to those students who have yet to return to site.

Please contact your course team or line manager if you have any concerns.

Please visit the government website for further information about the changes which become effective in Step 1 of the roadmap out of lockdown. We will be in touch with both students and staff as we approach the government’s Step 2.

Additional campus break-out space

As communicated on the 18 February, the following spaces are available for students to use onsite for study and breaks:

  • Meeting rooms H2.2, 2.3 and 2.4 (opposite the Level 2 Hunter Wing Pret premises) between 9.30am - 5.30pm.
  • The Students’ Union Bar between 1.00pm-5.00pm.
  • Boardrooms (rooms 2.6, 2.7 and 2.8) on Level 2 of the Hunter Wing.
  • The break-out area near the Level 2 Hunter Wing lifts, which was previously part of Pret.
  • The seating area between the Library and the Michael Heron lecture theatre on Level 1 of the Hunter Wing.

If an area is already at capacity when you arrive, please do not wait for space to become available. Please use one of the other areas indicated above.

Get tested and claim a free hot drink

Don’t forget, our Covid-19 test centre is now open on Mondays and Thursdays every week between 12pm-2pm. We strongly encourage students and staff who regularly attend site to come forward for twice weekly tests to help identify asymptomatic infections. Anyone without symptoms, but who carries the virus, could unknowingly spread it to many others. It is our responsibility to help break chains of transmission.

BOOK YOUR TEST HERE

Visit our Covid-19 information hub for more information about our testing centre.

Students and staff who attend appointments at the testing centre can receive a stamp on a Peabody’s loyalty card. After eight tests, you can claim a free hot drink at Peabody’s.

The loyalty cards are available to collect at the test centre registration desk and you can collect stamps at each test you attend until 25 March.

Please note, students who have yet to return to site are encouraged to get tested for Covid-19 before they travel back to university, where community testing facilities are available to them. You can find your local test centre here.

Once back onsite, students should get two tests –one immediately on return and then again three days later.  Students should then be tested twice weekly after that.
