Covid-19: Testing twice a week to help stop the spread
It is essential that we continue to do all that we can to reduce the spread of Covid-19, to protect ourselves, our families and our friends, and by getting tested regularly you will help to break the chain of transmission. Anyone without symptoms, but who carries the virus, could unknowingly spread it to many others.
If you are attending the St George’s site regularly, we strongly encourage you to come forward for twice weekly tests to identify asymptomatic infections.
From 15 February – 25 March the test centre will be open on Mondays and Thursdays 12pm-2pm.
Book your test here.
It is important that you keep the appointments made, as missed appointments prevent others from being tested. If you need to cancel or change your appointment, please email: firstname.lastname@example.org
Further details on the testing centre can be found here.
Face mask guidance
We are continually considering steps we can take to keep our community as safe as possible through the pandemic.
On 19 January we emailed you to confirm changes to our face covering guidance. Following the University recommendation, all staff and students must wear Type II face masks when on site. Type II face masks are surgical masks which ensure greater protection than other face coverings.
Masks are available at several locations around the campus. These are:
- Hunter Wing, Reception Desk (staff, students and visitors)
- Hunter Wing, Library (staff and students)
- Jenner Wing, Site Services (staff)
Face visors will also be available at these points for those who are medically exempt from wearing a face mask. Used face masks and visors must be disposed in clinical waste bins at the main entry and exit points to the University and hospital.
Face masks (or if exempt a visor) must be worn at all times while on the University site and in all learning environments including the Library, teaching space, or laboratory unless otherwise advised. In offices where two metre distancing can be maintained and in individual flats you do not need to wear a mask. However, in respect to other users, we encourage everyone in shared office spaces to continue to wear face masks where appropriate.
For more guidance on your responsibilities please see the Covid-19 hub pages.
Expansion of surge testing for new coronavirus variants
The areas included in surge testing have been expanded. Please see the full list here.
Staff and students who live in postcodes where surge testing is being deployed should only come to the University if it is essential they are on site and they have had a negative PCR test.
