Depending on your chosen course there may be extra costs you need to consider when planning your studies which are not covered by tuition fees. Tuition fees cover the cost of your teaching, assessment, and operating University facilities such as the library, IT equipment and other support services. Accommodation and living costs such as childcare are not included in tuition fees.

Below is a list of general costs you should consider alongside your studies.

Living costs You will need to budget for general living costs while at university. Read our specific advice on banking, budgeting, and financial support.
Sports clubs and societies You will need to pay for any membership fees should you wish to join a sports club or society.
Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check All healthcare professionals have to be DBS cleared under the Vulnerable Groups Act 2006; therefore, it is a requirement that applicants applying for clinical courses complete an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check before being permitted to start the programme. Relevant courses outline the associated costs.
Accommodation All incoming students to St George’s are eligible to apply for accommodation in our Halls of Residence, Horton Halls. The latest fees can be viewed on the accommodation webpages.
Books and stationery

Our libraries are a valuable resource with an extensive collection of books and journals as well as first-class facilities and IT equipment. You may prefer to, or be required to, buy your own copy of key books. If incurred, you will need to pay any library fines.

You will also need to pay for any stationery you require for your course.

Printing The University provides free printing and photocopying for academic purposes and within reasonable limits.
Replacement Student ID card You are required to wear an ID card while on campus, if you lose your ID card you will need to pay £5 for a replacement. Read more about Student ID cards
Student laptop requirements To get the most from your studies, you will need your personal computer or laptop and an internet connection in your home. Read more about technology requirements associated with online learning.
 Graduation ceremony You will be invited to a graduation ceremony on completion of your degree. The cost of your ticket is included in your tuition fee, but you will need to pay for guest tickets, gown hire and any formal photographs from the day.
