Dr Lakshmi Arumugam Ratnam

Honorary Senior Lecturer
Consultant Interventional Radiologist and the current Head of the Department of Radiology.

Dr Lakshmi Ratnam is a Consultant Interventional Radiologist and the current Head of the Department of Radiology at St George’s.  She performs a wide range of vascular and non-vascular interventions as well as diagnostic imaging. Her particular areas of interest are lymphatic and vascular malformations, paediatric intervention, uterine artery and pelvic vein embolization and salivary gland intervention.

Dr Ratnam qualified from the University of Sheffield in 1998. She completed her radiology specialist training at St George's Hospital, followed by subspecialty training in interventional radiology at St George's and a further year at the Charles Gairdner Hospital in Perth, Australia. She was appointed a consultant radiologist at St George’s Hospital in April 2009. She also holds the European Board of Interventional Radiology certification.

She is a member of the St George’s LAVA (Lymphatic and ArterioVenous Anomaly) MDT, working closely with colleagues in Dermatology, Genetics and Plastic Surgery to provide a comprehensive service to patients with lymphatic and venous anomalies. She is currently involved in the development of an MR lymphangiography service at St George’s in collaboration with the Lymphatic Research team.

Dr Ratnam has published in a range of interventional radiology procedures and techniques.  Her current focus is on the development of treatments and diagnosis for lymphatic and venous anomalies.
