Dimitra Mantzorou

Head of Zebrafish Unit
Responsible for all aspects of setting up and running the Zebrafish Unit.

I am a Registered Animal Technologist (RAnTech) and an Aquatic Biologist with multi-year experience in Zebrafish Units and Ichthyology labs, and I am passionate about advancing biomedical research and education while promoting a culture of care. I have a deep understanding of the breeding and maintenance of zebrafish, as well as animal care and welfare, training and assessing of competencies, and record keeping. I am also a specialist in zebrafish sperm cryopreservation and IVF, and have published award-winning articles and presentations on this topic.

As the Head of Zebrafish Unit at St George's, University of London, I am responsible for the day-to-day financial and operational management of the Unit, delivering services to research and teaching staff, line managing a team of Technicians and ensuring compliance with all aspects of the relevant legislation. I am also leading on the design, refurbishment, opening and gaining legal status for the new Zebrafish Unit, which will be a state-of-the-art facility with increased capacity and functionality. My goal is to provide the best possible support and environment for zebrafish research and teaching at St George's.
