St George's Radiology Society recognised by Royal College of Radiologists

Published: 29 May 2020

Congratulations to the St George's Radiology Society who have received the 2020 Undergraduate Radiology Society of the Year Award and Undergraduate Education Innovation and Excellence Award from the Royal College of Radiologists.

The Undergraduate Radiology Society of the Year Award is in recognition of the Radiology Society’s excellent work and engaging events in the last academic year.

Following one such event in October 2019, the Society, in collaboration with other students at St George’s and University College London, published a paper looking at the feasibility of incorporating a paediatric escape room into undergraduate education. The Society then received the Undergraduate Education Innovation and Excellence Award for using the escape room as an innovative approach to learning.

The paper, which you can read here, was spearheaded by St George’s alumna and Radiology Fellow Dr. Susan Shelmerdine.

President of the Radiology Society, Chantal Liu, commented, "This year has been very exciting for RadSoc. Together with the St George's Radiology Department, and several external speakers, we have increased our engagement with students dramatically through more hands-on and interactive sessions, and a new mentorship scheme.

“Our events have also become popular amongst foundation doctors and external students around the country. We would like to thank all clinicians involved for delivering such excellent sessions to promote the speciality."
