St George's excells again at neuroanatomy competition

Published: 02 April 2020

St George’s have again excelled at the National Undergraduate Neuroanatomy Competition. Held at the University of Southampton, the competition is traditionally a strength of St George’s with our University having performed strongly at the event in each of the past eight years.

Over 120 students were at this year’s competition which took place on Saturday 29 February.

Transition year medic, James Hayley, was the overall winner of the competition with final year medic, Neha Kallum, the competition’s runner-up.

St George’s students Daniel Lai, Allenis Mak, Emma Norton, Flora Matthews and Ayan Basu were also recognised at the competition for finishing in the top 10% of all participants, scooping half of the ten available distinctions.

Dr Paul Johns, Honorary Reader in Clinical Neuroanatomy and Consultant Neuropathologist, commented, “It’s great to see St George’s students topping the leader board for the eighth year running in this national neuroanatomy competition. The standard is very high and for James and Neha to win the overall first and runner up prize respectively, and for Daniel, Allenis, Emma, Flora and Ayan to do so well, is a fantastic achievement.”
