Congratulations to St George’s Badminton club who won a tournament involving all the medical schools in the National Association of Medical Schools (NAMS). Hosted by the defending champions Nottingham, St George’s came out on top after going the entire tournament undefeated!

After some hard-fought victories in the round robin stage against Nottingham and Birmingham, the team went on to beat teams such as Leeds, Leicester, and Manchester to make it to the final four as the top seed. St George’s then played Sheffield again in the semi-finals before being matched against their toughest opponents from the round robin stage, hosts Nottingham. The finals match ended up coming down to the final game. With the match tied at 2-2, St George’s managed to narrowly take the final game beating the hosts and remaining undefeated in the entire tournament. This means the NAMS badminton tournament will be coming down south to London next year!

Second year medic, Harpreet Chohan, is a member of the team and comments, "We set out to Nottingham not really knowing what to expect, due to Covid restrictions there had not been much badminton in the past year. We knew the competition was going to be fierce, but everyone really pulled together resulting in some amazing performances in very close fought games.

“As the competition went on, we kept winning and the belief kept building that we could go on and win it all. It's amazing for a university as small as ourselves to be able to compete against these bigger universities with all their resources, but that just goes to speak for our talent."
