To coordinate the University response to Covid-19 and ensure careful planning and considered decision-making for the future, the St George’s Business Continuity Planning (BCP) framework is operating.

The BCP framework exists:

  • to manage the response to a major disruptive event which prevents business as usual for a significant period of time

  • to enable resumption of teaching, research and other business within defined timeframes

  • to minimise the reputational, operational and financial impact on St George’s.

The BCP framework was enacted in early March 2020 as the scale and potential impact of the Covid-19 pandemic became clear.

Our response structure

A BCP Gold team chaired by Principal, Professor Jenny Higham, leads the strategic response and controls the resources required to implement decisions.

A BCP Silver team meets regularly to focus on operational areas in relation to the impact of the virus on the University. Key discussion points and identified actions are fed to BCP Gold for decision, strategic direction or further discussion.

BCP sub-teams relating to the key areas of Education, Recruitment and Admissions, and Technology have also met regularly since the start of March.

All sub teams report regularly into BCP Gold. 

The BCP response is operating in addition to the University’s existing governance structures. Reports from the BCP teams are received by the University’s Council and Executive Board.

Communicating decisions

Decisions taken through the BCP framework are communicated more widely at the appropriate time through all staff and student messages written by the Communications team and via FAQs on the St George’s website.
