About the event

The potential value of AI within healthcare is immense. Recent studies have shown how AI-based tissue-scanning can routinely achieve higher levels of anomaly-spotting than the human eye, which tires and can be distracted, alone. At the same time, low levels of public understanding around AI are routinely used by the media to create uncertainty and panic. There is a real need for effective governance within this fast-developing area.

The aim of this session is to highlight developments in AI alongside the guidance and support provided by the Society and College of Radiographers.

The session will be facilitated by Dr Marcus Jackson, Professional Lead for Diagnostic Radiography at St George’s. Marcus is the current Chair of The College of Radiographers Board of Trustees.

Programme

Presentation - 12:00-13:00

Lunch - 13:00-14:00

All staff and students welcome! Lunch provided.

Speakers

Dr. Christina Malamateniou, an international expert in medical imaging, and Director of Postgraduate Radiography programme, City, University of London and Chair of Research, EFRS. She will explore the advantages of deploying AI within healthcare processes and will compare this with the often sensationalised reporting. At the same time as highlighting the opportunities, she will also explore the need for both effective governance and positive applications, arguing that while we cannot stop progress, we need to consistently harness the benefits and minimise the risks.

Dr Marcus Jackson will give an overview of AI policy & projects that are supporting radiographers to better understand AI in practice and education.
