Over 250 years we have established our reputation for improving health through education and research.

Our archives offer a glimpse of the commitment we have held throughout our history to developing pioneering people and a thriving, collaborative community. Our collection dates back to the 16th Century and spans 500 linear metres. The 300 artefacts and 500 rare medical books (the earliest dating from 1532) tell stories from the University and St George’s Hospital, capturing how our passion for healthcare has been constant as our work has developed over time.

Read below tales of objects in our archives, and discover how they have shaped who we are today.
