Most staff will be required to handle personal data of some sort in the course of their work.

The university has an obligation to ensure that its staff understand the basics of data protection, especially in the context of their own duties and responsibilities.

Any staff involved in managing personal data are strongly advised to attend the session offered by the university, Managing Personal Information.

As well as providing an overview of the key requirements of the Data Protection Act, the session also includes guidance on the following:

  • appropriate use of personal data

  • keeping information secure

  • managing the accuracy and quality of data

  • identifying and dealing with a 'subject access request'.

There will also be an opportunity to ask questions and discuss any specific issues you have relating to your work.

The session is run once a term and is open to all staff.
