Governance, Legal and Assurance Services (GLAS) provides institutional governance, risk management, legal services, student conduct and compliance, Freedom of Information (FOI), and records management services to St George's, University of London.

Derek Baldwinson – Interim Director of Governance, Legal and Assurance Services

Rachael Elliott – Head of Student Conduct and Compliance

Rachael worked for the NHS in capacity planning and postgraduate medical education before relocating to London in 2006 to manage undergraduate assessment for the Graduate Entry Medical Programme. Following her appointment as Assistant Registrar (Student Affairs) in 2011, she established the sub-division within GLAS known as Student Conduct and Compliance and manages the team responsible for student casework, regulatory compliance and procedural development. Kirsten Hylan – Records Manager

Kirsten joined St George's, University of London in January 2018. Records Management supports the university by providing a framework and controls for managing records in any medium produced as part of our day to day activities and Kirsten's role is to develop, implement, and embed the records management framework across St George's, University of London. Sian Marshall – Deputy Director of GLAS - currently on maternity leave

Sian joined St George's in July 2018. Sian acts as clerk to Executive Board, Senate, Academic Forum and Finance Committee, coordinates the annual meeting schedule for the main St George's committees and provides advice to staff across the institution on committee and governance matters. She provides support for the annual governance and accountability tasks and the development and implementation of plans for the broader governance area. Ken Morrison – General Counsel

Ken is a solicitor admitted to practice in South Africa (2002), England and Wales (2004) and Ireland (2010) and a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (MCIArb). He enjoyed a varied career primarily in dispute resolution in Johannesburg, London and Singapore. Ken was jointly employed by both Kingston University and St George's between 2011 and 2016 before taking up full-time employment at St George's. GLAS is a Lexcel accredited legal department. Ken is also the nominated non-academic staff representative on Council and a non-executive director of the London Universities Purchasing Consortium (LUPC). Frances Stannard – Acting Senior Student Conduct and Compliance Officer

The Senior Student Conduct and Compliance Officer is responsible for advising staff and students on a variety of student procedures and for complex student casework. Administrative responsibilities include recruiting and advising members of committees, clerking and report writing and liaising with external organisations. Additionally, the Senior Student Conduct and Compliance Officer maintains a confidential register of students with health, conduct or academic progression difficulties. Frances is currently Acting Senior Student Conduct and Compliance Officer whilst Denise Chase is on maternity leave. You can contact Frances via email or call on ext. 4705.

Denise Chase – Senior Student Conduct and Compliance Officer

The Senior Student Conduct and Compliance Officer is responsible for advising staff and students on a variety of student procedures and for complex student casework. Administrative responsibilities include recruiting and advising members of committees, clerking and report writing and liaising with external organisations. Additionally, the Senior Student Conduct and Compliance Officer maintains a confidential register of students with health, conduct or academic progression difficulties. Adam Bowman – Student Conduct and Compliance Officer

The Student Conduct and Compliance Officer provides secretarial support for the committees and panels named within the seven student procedures and has primary responsibility for Discretionary Panels, Extended Period of Registration Panels and Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Panels. In addition, the Student Conduct and Compliance Officer contributes to ad hoc institutional projects and facilitates staff training. You can contact Adam via email or call on ext. 4705.
