Governance, Legal and Assurance Services (GLAS) provides institutional governance, risk management, legal services, student conduct and compliance, Freedom of Information (FOI), and records management services to St George's, University of London.

Meet the team

Ken Morrison – Interim Director of GLAS. 
General Counsel

Ken is a solicitor admitted to practice in South Africa (2002), England and Wales (2004) and Ireland (2010) and a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (MCIArb). He enjoyed a varied career primarily in dispute resolution in Johannesburg, London and Singapore. Ken was jointly employed by both Kingston University and St George's between 2011 and 2016 before taking up full-time employment at St George's. GLAS is a Lexcel accredited legal department. Ken is also a non-executive director of the London Universities Purchasing Consortium (LUPC). You can contact Ken via email or on ext. 5096.

Shahib Uddin - Senior Governance Officer (Risk Management)

Shahib joined St George’s in September 2021. Prior to this role, Shahib worked across local authorities and higher education institutions across London in areas of risk management, governance and other assurance related activities. Shahib acts as clerk to the Risk Audit and Efficiency Committee and the Safety Management Committee and provides general support to the Director of GLAS. Shahib supports the Director of GLAS with student complaints and appeals at the level of the Governing Body. Contact Shahib via email or on ext. 4698.

Emma Whitaker - Senior Governance Officer (Corporate and Executive Governance)

Emma joined St George's in October 2021. Prior to this role, Emma worked across various NHS organisations in South West London, in the areas of Governance, safeguarding and business management. Emma acts as clerk to Executive Board, Senate and Finance Committee, and provides general support to the Director of Governance Legal and Assurance Services (GLAS) and the Chair of the Council. Emma supports the Director of GLAS with student complaints and appeals at the level of the Governing Body. Contact Emma via email or on ext. 0679.

Rachael Elliott – Head of Student Conduct and Compliance

Rachael worked for the NHS in capacity planning and postgraduate medical education before relocating to London in 2006 to manage undergraduate assessment for the Graduate Entry Medical Programme. Following her appointment as Assistant Registrar (Student Affairs) in 2011, she established the sub-division within GLAS known as Student Conduct and Compliance and manages the team responsible for student casework, regulatory compliance and procedural development. Kirsten Hylan – Records Manager

Kirsten joined St George's, University of London in January 2018. Records Management supports the university by providing a framework and controls for managing records in any medium produced as part of our day to day activities and Kirsten's role is to develop, implement, and embed the records management framework across St George's, University of London.
