The Advance HE’s Athena SWAN charter recognises work undertaken to address gender equality in higher education. There are three levels of Athena SWAN awards: Bronze, Silver, and Gold. They can be held at a departmental or institutional level.

Since May 2015, the charter has expanded beyond the representation of women in science, technology, engineering, mathematics and medicine (STEMM) to address gender equality more broadly, and not just barriers to progress that affect women. St George’s, University of London is committed to the principles of the expanded Athena SWAN charter. Our actions aim to encourage representation, progression and success for all. This includes progression of students into academia and the working environment for academic and non-academic staff.
