Our refurbished Physiotherapy laboratories are located on Level 5, Hunter Wing, enable students to learn in an immersive, simulated environment.

Both Physiotherapy BSc and MSc pre-registration programmes include a great deal of practical learning of skills as well as practical assessment of skills, meaning the space will be vital for these students both in learning and assessment.

We have three fully equipped hospital-style bed spaces with state of the art manikins for practicing moving and handling techniques, hospital bed transfers and mobility, application of oxygen therapy, suctioning and Manual Hyperinflation techniques.  Students are able to access the Physiotherapy labs in the evening and on weekends so that they can continue to build on what they have learnt in taught sessions and prepare for placement and practical assessment.

The opportunity to learn in this style means that students feel more confident to approach learning opportunities in a clinical setting when on practice placements and that St George’s Physiotherapy graduates are highly skilled, competent and confident to join the workforce of newly qualified physiotherapists.

What we've done

The improvements we have made when refurbishing the physiotherapy teaching laboratories includes the installation of:

  • ID card access and CCTV
  • ITAV systems including 4 large screen monitors facilitating the use of audio/video and engagement (e.g. use of Mentimeter, Cahoot etc.)
  • Medi-Wall to simulate clinical teaching spaces.
