This message is only for St George's registered students and staff.

Dear students and colleagues,

This week the government announced that additional testing and genomic sequencing is being deployed across parts of South London, predominantly the boroughs of Wandsworth and Lambeth, where the Covid-19 variant first identified in South Africa has been found.

Students and staff who live, work, or travel through these boroughs are strongly encouraged to take a Covid-19 PCR test, whether they are showing symptoms or not. As St George's campus is in the London borough of Wandsworth, all staff and students who have been within the borough should take a PCR test as soon as possible.

Please use this link to book a PCR test. You’re eligible to use this service because you’ve been asked to get a test by a local council.

Only PCR testing can be used to detect variants. Rapid lateral flow tests can only determine positivity for Covid-19, not the specific variant. If you have been vaccinated you should still get tested.

In light of the current situation in Wandsworth, all staff and students are reminded to adhere to social distancing guidance and measures to reduce the spread of Covid-19. Please limit your number of contacts, wash your hands regularly and thoroughly, keep your distance and wear a type II face mask whilst on site. If you test positive by any method, you must isolate in order to prevent passing on the virus and inform the University. Staff should contact their line manager and hrhelp@sgul.ac.uk and students should contact coronavirusconcern@sgul.ac.uk

The Director of Public Health Wandsworth encourages all those affected to check the website regularly for updates. For further information, please see here

Announcement on remaining students returning to site

Yesterday, the Government announced that all remaining university students who have not yet returned to campus and in-person teaching will be able to do so from Step 3 of the Government’s roadmap, no earlier than 17 May.

The senior leadership team is reviewing the implications of this and will update the community as soon as information becomes available.
