Dear colleagues,

Today, we would like to share some perspectives on education from Professor Jane Saffell, Deputy Principal (Education) and Professor Rachel Allen, Director of Institute of Medical and Biomedical Education (IMBE). Their video messages can be found below:

In her message, Jane summarises the current blended learning approach and deferment of plans to increase Master’s programme sessions on campus until government restrictions lift. She thanks staff involved in providing and supporting online learning as well as the many teams who ensure that teaching on site can take place safely. She also reflects on the collaborative, multi-team decision-making process that led to the current arrangements and which is currently focused on planning for the Autumn.

Jane mentions the recent staff and student surveys on online learning and touches on some of the preliminary findings. This includes the feedback from students that they appreciate the hard work that goes into effective online teaching and value several features of online learning that they would like to keep in the future. Within their surveys, both students and staff highlighted social and interactive elements of learning as those they would most value having face-to-face on campus when possible.

In Rachel’s message she outlines how education delivery is continuing under the current restrictions in addition to how Canvas enhances our online marking of assessments. She also thanks staff for all of their efforts in delivering this.
