Dear Student,

I hope this finds you well.

From Monday 14th September 2020, it will be illegal to gather in groups of more than 6 people in and outside the home. For this reason, we are obliged to implement the following changes at Halls from that date:

  • Horton Halls will be closed to external visitors
  • Mixing between flats will be prohibited; residents will not be able to visit other flats or host other residents in their flats
  • The large common room near the reception will be closed (no entry or exit)
  • You must wear a mask/facial covering while in Horton Halls (corridors, bike store, laundry room, reception, lifts, and stairwells)
  • Any outdoor gatherings, whether in the courtyard or at the front of the building, will be limited to no more than 6 individuals.

We appreciate that these regulations significantly limit social opportunities in Halls, but we know that everyone will do their best to keep themselves, their friends and the rest of the community safe and well.

Because of the seriousness of the new regulations, the security team will disperse any groups of 6+ in or immediately outside Horton Halls.  Residents not following the rules above may be breaching Part B of the Licence Agreement and subject to disciplinary action.

Between now and Monday, the current rules for social distancing at Halls remain in place:

  • One guest per flat at any given time
  • Wearing face masks in the Common Room
  • Socially distancing appropriately, keep two metres apart

While it may be tempting to arrange a last gathering before the new rules come into effect, we encourage all residents to act responsibly and not gather in the courtyard, common rooms or flats themselves.  As a reminder, flatmates are responsible for any visitors in their flats and may be held accountable for their own or others’ actions.

Thank you for your support so far and we appreciate your patience with the new restrictions.  Hopefully we’ll be able to lift them as soon as possible.

Should you require further information or clarification, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Kind regards,

Accommodation Team
