2022 Telephone Campaign comes to a close with over £106,000 raised

Published: 24 May 2022

Our annual Telephone Fundraising Campaign came to an end on Sunday 15 May, with over £106,000 raised for priority projects which will enhance the student experience at St George’s and offer support where it is most needed.

Our annual campaigns take place over three weeks every Spring, when a team of current students get in touch with our alumni to share news from St George’s and speak about how they can stay connected to the university. Our students also speak with alumni about how they can support important student causes by making a donation.

This year, we chose to focus our fundraising efforts on our Annual Fund and Hardship Fund.

Enhancing the student experience through our Annual Fund

Our Annual Fund allows us to provide flexible funding across the university where our students need it most. It has supported a wide range of priority projects in the past – from providing laptops to student who would otherwise struggle to access online resources, to sending support packages to students isolating during the Covid-19 pandemic. This year, alumni generosity will allow us to support a range of initiatives, including the redevelopment of our Clinical Skills Practice Space. This will provide students with improved access to better equipment to practice a broad range of procedures, ensuring that they are equipped with the skills and confidence to be the best possible future healthcare practitioners.

Providing financial relief through our Hardship Fund

With the rising costs of living and studying in London, it is more important than ever that our students are able to receive financial support through our Hardship Fund. In the last year, alumni donations contributed £20,000 to the Hardship Fund, allowing us to reach more of those most in need of emergency funding. This year, thanks to the support of our alumni through our campaign, we will be able to further increase the funding available to students who are struggling to cover their living costs.

Reflecting on her experience on the campaign, Third Year Biomedical Science student, Shambavi Sivakumar, says: “I’ve really enjoyed being a part of the telephone fundraising campaign this year. It allowed me to engage in wonderful conversations with St George’s alumni from all walks of life and hear about their interesting, unique journeys."

“Hearing about their positive experiences as George’s students and how much they’ve enjoyed their time here has been amazing! I’ve also enjoyed working together with our hard-working team to fundraise money for projects that help current and future students.”

Nike Alesbury, Associate Director of Development and Alumni, adds: “We are thrilled to have received such generous support from our alumni. Each year, we have been able to support a range of initiatives which have a lasting impact on our students, and we are excited to see what we can achieve in the coming year thanks to the help of our wonderful community of alumni.”

“Our students really value the interactions they have with our alumni. We are so grateful to each and every one of those who took the time to speak about what they have gone on to do since graduating and share insight into different career paths.”
