Dr Síle Molloy in the Institute for Infection and Immunity has been selected as one of 32 ‘emerging leaders’ to become a member of the UK Young Academy.
By combining laboratory investigations with studies in the field, we aim to improve the diagnosis, treatment and control of tropical parasitic diseases, including malaria and sleeping sickness (African trypanosomiasis). Our wide-ranging research encompasses the following areas:
Characterising key malaria parasite proteins and important drug targets.
Field studies to improve treatment and management of malaria.
Practical diagnostics for the developing world.
A point-of-care diagnostic for malaria.
Adapting antimalarials for use in cancer.
Developing an effective vaccine targeting Ebola virus disease.
