Leavers form

For each member of staff leaving we require a leavers form (Word) to be completed. This is to ensure proper processing of your exit but also to obtain information about what you will be doing next, which is required for the statutory staff return of the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA).

Exit survey

We value the feedback of people who are leaving St George’s and will request that you tell us about your experiences, which can help us to improve our employment policies and practices for staff in the future. You can complete our exit survey here. You may also request a meeting with a member of HR if you would like to do so.

Managers should also meet with employees before they leave. Suggested areas to discuss can be found in the Leaver Interview – Guidance for Managers (Word), which also includes a copy of the online exit survey.

Resignation

When you decide to leave St George’s, either to resign or retire, you will need to give your manager sufficient notice. Select your grade or role below to see the notice periods that apply to you.

Retirement

If you decide to leave St George’s and draw your pension (ie retire) you also need to give the notice outlined above. Should you be offered a role at St George’s after you have retired, you would be required to have left St George’s for at least one calendar month before being re-employed on a new contract. More information on retirement is available on the payroll pages.

Termination of a fixed-term contract

In general it is to be expected that a fixed-term contract will expire on its termination date but your manager will discuss this with you prior to the end date and complete a fixed-term contract discussion meeting form. Termination of the contract will be confirmed in a letter from HR. If you wish to leave before the end date of your fixed-term contract, you should resign giving notice, as outlined above. More information is available in the fixed-term contract policy.

Redundancy

You will be consulted if your role becomes at risk of redundancy and given notice as outlined above. More information is available in the change management policy.
