We've collated some frequently asked questions regarding our interviews.

MMI format

View all Close all
Which courses use MMIs?

All of our clinical courses use the MMI format. A full list of the courses that interview can be found here. You will be asked a variety of questions in line with the NHS Values, including your motivation for the subject, team work, and integrity. Example questions can be found on our general guidance for MMIs

Most of our postgraduate courses, and the Biomedical Science BSc and Clinical Pharmacology BSc programmes, do not interview.

Can I choose to interview remotely?

If you live overseas or are unable to get to our campus using land-based transport, you may be able to use our Remote Multiple Mini Interview (RMMI) process. Please see our page for international/overseas applicants for more information

Unfortunately, we are unable to offer this to most mainland UK applicants. If you have been invited to attend an in-person MMI and are eligible for support via our Contextual Admissions policy, you may be interested in the bursary we offer to help towards costs. More information on this can be found on our contextual admissions pages

Can I choose to interview using a different format?

Whether you are attending in person or remotely, we are required to interview all of our applicants in a consistent way to ensure fairness and transparency in our processes. Therefore, we are unable to offer applicants an interview in a different format to the rest of the programme's applicants.

If you require our MMI process to be adapted to your specific circumstances, please email interviews@sgul.ac.uk. Each request will be look at on a case-by-case basis.

How can an MMI accommodate my disability or specific learning difficulty?

If you require our MMI process to be adapted to your disability or specific learning difficulty, please email interviews@sgul.ac.uk. We review each request on a case-by-case basis with our disabilities team to ensure that each applicant receives the additional requirements they need specific to them.

Due to this, we may consider moving the date of your interview to ensure that these are in place. If this is the case, we will contact you as soon as possible to let you know, and discuss your options for this.

How can an MMI be adapted to suit my accessibility needs?
Please feel contact us at interviews@sgul.ac.uk if you have any questions about your MMI process, or would like to make us aware of any accessibility adjustments you require.
Can I use my phone or take in any reference notes?

You will not be able to bring your phone with you during the MMI. There will be a space for you to leave your belongings in your MMI room and we expect you to leave your phone switched off in your bag or coat.

You will also not be allowed to refer to or take notes on paper during your MMI.

Can I bring food or drink into the interview room?

You are encouraged to bring a water bottle with a secure lid with you into the interview room. You will not be allowed hot drinks, canned drinks, or any other drink during your MMI.

You will not be allowed to bring food with you into the MMI. However, complementary refreshments will be available in the Applicant Waiting Room for you prior to your interview.

I have applied for deferred entry, can I interview in the following year?
Unfortunately not. All applicants who have applied in this current UCAS cycle must interview and have a final decision from us by the stated UCAS deadlines.

When should I expect to have an interview?

If you are invited to interview, you will be emailed by the Admissions team inviting you to choose a date for interview using our online Applicant Portal. The dates are released on a rolling basis, and are limited in number, so we advise booking onto a date as soon as possible after being invited. If you delay booking and our scheduled interview days end, we will not be able to offer you an alternative interview.

The date of when you are interviewed is not a reflection on the quality of your application, and will have no effect on the outcome of your interview.

Please check the interview schedule page for indicative interview dates, and the last interview date available.

I've booked an interview, what should I do if I can't make it?

If you are unable to attend your scheduled interview, you must email interviews@sgul.ac.uk as soon as possible with your applicant ID, course, date and time of interview.

We cannot guarantee that you will be able to attend an alternative date, and we may request evidence of the circumstances that are preventing you from attending your scheduled interview.

Please note, we operate a fit-to-sit policy for our interviews, so by attending an interview for assessment, you are declaring yourself well enough to be assessed, and we will not be able to consider extenuating circumstances post-interview.

Can my parent/guardian/family member come with me to campus?

We understand that this is an important day and you may wish to have a friend or family member with you for support. They are welcome to attend, but due to room and tour capacity limits, we may not be able to accommodate them alongside you for the whole day. They will not be allowed in the Applicant Waiting Room or the MMI Rooms. During this time, they will still be able to remain on-site if they choose.

If we are nearing capacity limits for the tour or course talks, we will prioritise applicant attendance and any other persons will be asked to wait elsewhere. There are public spaces and cafes available on campus if this is the case.

When will I hear about the outcome of my interview?

For all courses, except the undergraduate 5-year Medicine and 4-year graduate entry Medicine programmes, outcomes of interviews are released on a rolling basis, and we aim to have these decisions sent to you no later than eight to twelve weeks following your interview.

For the undergraduate 5-year Medicine and 4-year graduate entry Medicine programme, the outcome of your interview will be released to you by the end of February and April respectively.

Our decisions will be communicated by email, and by updating your UCAS Hub.

What is a Student Entry Agreement?

If you are successful in obtaining an offer, we will ask you to sign a Student Entry Agreement form at enrolment. The Student Entry Agreement details the expectations we have of our students, and details information about required uniform and patient contact throughout the course.

An example copy of this can be found here, for your reference.

I have Covid-19, should I still attend my in-person interview?

If you are suffering from cold, flu or Covid-19 symptoms, stay away from others and look after yourself. Do not attend your in-person interview or come on campus. St George's is  also the only university to share a campus with a hospital. Whilst we do not expect you to test, if you do test positive please do not attend campus even if you are asymptomatic.

If you have or suspect you have Covid-19 and are concerned that it will affect your upcoming interview date, please email us at interviews@sgul.ac.uk and we will be able to advise you on how to proceed.

What Covid-19 safety measures are in place for my interview?

When on-site, please feel free to wear a face covering if you would like to. Please be aware that, as we share our site with an active hospital, there will be a mixture of people wearing masks and not wearing masks around the site, and people you interact with will be using masks according to their discretion.

St George's is the only university to share a campus with a hospital and we thank you for being considerate of the clinically vulverable people and NHS staff you may encounter during your visit to campus.

Hand sanitizer will be available throughout the day and we observe strict room capacity limits based on the ventilation capabilities of each room. We also disinfect any high-risk surfaces between sessions in the MMI rooms and throughout the day in the Applicant Waiting Room

Please see our up-to-date Covid-19 guidance on campus here. You will also receive an email ahead of your interview that informs you of any updates to the current Covid-19 guidance on our campus.

I am classed as vulnerable, how will I be supported during my time on campus?

We are constantly monitoring the Covid-19 situation in our local area and nationally, and update our protocols and guidance accordingly. Please see our up-to-date Covid-19 guidance on campus here

If you are concerned about Covid-19 ahead of your interview or have any specific health concerns that you would like to make us aware of, please email us at interviews@sgul.ac.uk and we will be able to advise and assist you.

Do I have to show a negative test and/or proof of vaccination to attend my interview?

We do not currently ask for proof of vaccination or negative test to attend on-site events.

Please see our website for guidance on our vaccination policy and responsibilities for current staff and students.
