How and when to apply for a postgraduate scholarship

There is no separate application process to apply. If you are a Home or International applicant applying for a taught postgraduate Master’s course which has a scholarship, you will be automatically considered for the scholarship, provided you submit your course application by the deadline below. 

You must ensure your course application is completed and submitted by the deadline in order to be considered. This means your application must contain all relevant supporting documentation required by the programme applied to, such as your references contact detail, transcripts, and English language test results. 

Your referees will be contacted at the point of submission, so we encourage you to apply before the deadline in order for us to obtain your references in time. Alternatively, you will need to request for your referees to complete their reference for you on the same day as you submit your application. 

If you haven't heard about your scholarship application by 1st July 2024 then unfortunately your application has been unsuccessful.

Process for courses you apply via UCAS 

Deadline: 31 January 2024

For these courses you will be invited to an in-person or virtual interview (MMI), which will form part of the scholarship criteria (see Eligibility and Assessment Criteria below).

Eligibility and assement criteria 

To be eligible for a scholarship you must: 

  1. Have made an application for a postgraduate Master’s course, either full-time or part-time study, by the deadlines stated above 

  1. Not already be qualified at a Master’s level or above (e.g. PhD) 

  1. Be self-funding your course fees or in receipt of a tuition fee loan (courses funded by the NHS or students receiving employer or sponsor funding are not eligible)  

  1. Have, or be predicted, a 2:1 or above or international equivalent  

 The Scholarship Committees will consider and score each application based on your: 

  1. Degree classification 

  1. Personal statement 

  1. References  

  1. Interview (where there is one)

How the scholarship funds are paid

The scholarship funds are paid as a partial or full (depending on your course) reduction in your tuition fee. For example, if your Master’s fee is £15,000 and the scholarship amount is £3,000 - then your tuition fee will be reduced to £12,000.

  1. You need to have applied for one of our taught postgraduate programmes by the deadline above 

  1. If interviews take place they will be held between February and June 2024 

  1. Successful applicants will be contacted before 1 July 2024

Chevening Scholarships

Chevening Scholarships are the UK government’s global scholarship programme, funded by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) and partner organisations. The programme makes awards to outstanding scholars with leadership potential from around the world to study a one-year masters degree in the UK. 

Further details about the elgibility criteria, application timeline and how to apply can be found on the Chevening website.

Please note that the application deadline for Chevening Scholarships typically closes before applications open at St George's. Do not worry about this timeline. You can apply for the Chevening scholarship first indicating your course of choice, and apply at St George's at a later date. We highly recommend submitting your course application at St George's before the end of November.

GREAT Scholarship - India

In partnership with the British Council and the GREAT Britain Campaign, St George’s is offering one scholarship to students from India applying for postgraduate courses.
