All new users of the Image Resource Facility must register via PPMS.
It is compulsory to complete an IRF health and safety induction before conducting work within the facility for all IRF equipment systems and resources.
All new users must receive a training session from IRF staff before booking equipment. Basic training sessions on the microscopes systems are free of charge and we charge only for the hourly usage rate of the system being trained on.
Please do not consume food or bring drinks into the laboratory or microscopy areas.
Microscope and equipment booking policy and procedures
Booking of the facility equipment before use is obligatory.
To reserve and book microscopes and equipment please use the online booking calendar.
Microscopes are booked in 15 minute time slots. If you finish your booked session early you can cancel the rest of your session time on the PPMS booking system or please inform one of the facilities technicians. If you do not cancel the remaining time your will be charged for your whole session.
Please start your session punctually and adhere to the user guidelines located with each piece of equipment.
Please leave the microscope room tidy ready for the next user.
Clean any oil from objectives and place protective cover over the microscope if you are the last user of the day.
Please report any faults or problems with the microscope.
If you are unable to keep the scheduled time booked on the microscope please contact the Image Resource Facility on Ext: 5218 a minimum of 4 hours prior to your booking start time so that other users may have the opportunity to use the microscope.
If you do not turn up for your scheduled time booked, and do not notify the facility of your cancellation you will be charged for the duration of your booking.
If you are booked for a morning session (between 09.00 - 13.00) please ensure you are able to keep this scheduled time, any cancellations for morning sessions must be made the day before.
Important Notice: Outside of facility core hours Light Microscopy bookings
Access is restricted out of facility core hours and at weekends, users must first seek permission and authorisation to book equipment during this period (BSc students not applicable).
All users outside of core hours must adhere to the SGUL policy Guidance on Lone and Out of Hours Working and sign in at the SGUL security office providing the IRF room number a contact number.
