Update

Alumni Engagement Officer Heather Blackhall raised over £600 for the Coronavirus Action Fund. Heather hiked Ben Nevis from her back garden on 30 May, walking up and down her 1m high patio steps a total of 1,345 times.

Speaking of the fundraising event Heather said, “Thank you so much to all of those who sent donations or wished me luck for the hike, and to those who watched some of the livestream! I'm really pleased to have been able to help in a small way towards research impact and support the great work being done at St George's.”

Two weeks ago, we launched our Coronavirus Action Fund to support our vital research in response to the coronavirus pandemic and continue work to improve health. In just two weeks, the Fund has received generous support from a wide range of donors including SGUL alumni and staff, raising money for essential equipment needed to carry out research into the disease.

To help raise money for the fund, the Alumni Engagement Officer will be hiking Ben Nevis from her back garden on Saturday, 30th May at 10am, walking up and down her 1m high patio steps a total of 1,345 times.

Heather says, “I’m really proud to work for a university that can have such a huge impact during this pandemic. As well as so many of our staff, students and alumni working on the front line to support the NHS, we have an amazing team of researchers doing some great work into the diagnostics and treatment of coronavirus and investigating the development of a vaccine

“I wanted to show my support for the Fund and came up with the idea before some of the lockdown restrictions were lifted. I usually enjoy running, but living in a busy area, it’s been difficult to cover a good distance and maintain social distancing. Without a car, it’s difficult to travel elsewhere at the moment so thought I’d do something a bit different from home”.
