The British Heart Foundation (BHF) funds over £100m of research each year to beat heart and circulatory disease as well as to better understand what causes these diseases. Their funding has helped researchers understand pathological mechanisms in heart disease, stroke, vascular dementia and diabetes. In addition, the British Heart Foundation helps to reduce the risk of heart disease and improve patient experience through education.

Professor Greenwood adds, "Several researchers at St George's benefit from BHF funding and now it is our chance to give something back. The bill has been put together by Becky Shorrocks, a comedian who was diagnosed with cardiac myopathy a few years ago".
