Giuseppe Sollazzo, who works in the Information Services department at the University, received the prize at a ceremony in London.

The Open Data Institute was founded by Sir Tim Berners-Lee, the inventor of the World Wide Web, and Sir Tim presented Giuseppe with his prize.

The Open Data Awards celebrate innovation and excellence in open data across the world.

Giuseppe's work in open data began with the St George's Open Data initiative several years ago.

He said: "I was delighted to receive the award, having been an advocate of open data since the early days.

"Open data is now entering a major new phase, with practitioners driven by solving people's problems with data, so it's exciting to be part of that building process."
