Tens of thousands of students use UCAS Clearing & Adjustment each year to find a university place, either because they got better or worse grades than expected, or because they changed their plans.

Last year, St George’s undergraduate entry Medicine MBBS course went into Clearing & Adjustment for the first time and the university was inundated with applications from candidates who had exceeded their grade expectations. More than 8,000 calls were made to the university’s Clearing hotline for medicine last year.

Ameera Cajucom is a medical student who gained her place at St George’s through Clearing last year. Despite achieving three As at A level, she failed to achieve entry to medicine elsewhere and had considered travelling for a gap year. Instead she chose to pursue the opportunity of a place at St George’s.

She said: “I think that going through Clearing for St George's was life changing, practically a miracle. I didn't realise how much it was the university for me, the life and the culture is perfect.”

Professor Jenny Higham, Principal of St George’s, University of London, said: “We were delighted with the interest shown by potential students who applied through the Clearing process last year.

“St George’s shares a site with a major teaching hospital, offering our students unique experiences to work alongside patients and healthcare professionals. Following Clearing and Adjustment last year, many outstanding students, who could not gain a place elsewhere, are now on the road to fulfilling their dreams of becoming a doctor or pursuing another specialism. We are enormously keen to open our doors to students with the same drive and ambition this year.”

The undergraduate medicine course starts this September and the entry requirement is three As at A level including Biology and Chemistry. There are other entry requirements as well.

There are also other opportunities available to student a range of health related subjects.
