The St George’s, University of London Strategic Plan 2017-22 was launched on 24 May 2017. The strategy captures what is important to our community at St George’s and sets out how we will sustain our excellence and impact for the next five years.

All staff and students were invited to pick up a copy of the new strategy at an afternoon tea themed event hosted by the Principal and Chief Operating Officer in the Students’ Union bar. The launch was the culmination of a process to define our priorities, involving wide consultation with staff.

During the event, Principal, Professor Jenny Higham, thanked everybody who had contributed to the plan and introduced it as “a new chapter for St George’s”.

In her opening message in the Strategic Plan, Professor Higham describes St George’s as a collegiate, inspiring university that is focused on improving health. She says, “This strategy sets out how we will meet our ambitions in the next five years. We hope that you share our pride and confidence in our university and will be part of the important contributions we make.”

The plan highlights aspects that make St George’s a special place to work and study, including our inclusive and diverse environment, the positive relationships we foster between staff and students and the worldwide application of our expertise in science and healthcare. The plan also recognises the strength of our location in a major London hospital in Tooting where we are part of one of the world’s major cities as well as a thriving, local community.

Facilitating excellence

The University Council approved the St George’s Strategic Plan for 2017-2022 at its meeting in March and work is now underway to develop the operational plan, setting out how we will deliver the strategy over the next five years.
