My trip has been cancelled and not all of my costs were refunded– can I/how do I make an insurance claim?

If the meeting or conference you were due to attend has been cancelled (including the host institution for your elective cancelling your visit) or your trip was planned to an area where travel is now not advised, then you should be able to claim for any non-refundable costs under SGUL’s insurance policy.

The claim form can be found here (PDF). SGUL’s certificate number is UM177/17 and you will need to detail the meeting which has been cancelled in the travel details section on page 2 (e.g. conference cancellation, destination now in an area travel is advised against). If you choose to cancel your travel for any other reason then you are unlikely to be covered by SGUL’s insurance for any costs incurred.

Claims should be submitted via email to claims@umal.co.uk and any queries can be sent to Finance on finance@sgul.ac.uk

Can I claim on insurance for the cancellation of travel related to St George’s?

Current FCO travel advice (17/3/20) is that people should avoid all non-essential travel outside of the UK for 30 days from 17/3/20. [[[NBSP]]] If your planned trip was within this timeframe then we would advise that you cancel it and claim any non-refundable costs [[[NBSP]]] under the St George’s [[[NBSP]]] insurance policy. [[[NBSP]]]

If [[[NBSP]]] a meeting, conference or the elective placement you were due to do overseas [[[NBSP]]] is outside this period but has been cancelled, then you should also be able to claim for any non-refundable costs under [[[NBSP]]] our [[[NBSP]]] insurance policy. [[[NBSP]]] [[[NBSP]]]
