The evolution of organ development

Date: Monday 28 June 2021

Time: 12:00 - 13:00

With Dr. Margarida Cardoso Moreira, (Francis Crick Institute London)

Host: Tom Carter

Margarida is a newly appointed Group leader at the Francis Crick Institute who is interested in how organs evolve and adapt in form and function across different species.

Margarida’s group is investigating this fundamental question by studying the placenta, an organ that is thought to have evolved independently as many as 100 times in vertebrates, and which shows incredible diversity of form and function across different species.

Margarida’s group uses genetic, cellular and developmental approaches to address how organs are created and has a special interest in understanding how maternal immune systems have evolved to cope with the challenges of tolerance for foetal cells.

All welcome, we look forward to seeing you at the seminar.
