What are the grants?

St George’s PE Seed Funding supports staff and students in developing and delivering public engagement activities and events. Applicants can apply for grants ranging up to £1000.

Who can apply?

Research students and staff at St George’s. Projects can have members from outside St George’s involved in the planning and delivery, but must have at least one member from St George’s to qualify.

What projects are supported?

Any project that falls within the NCCPE scope of Public Engagement or within the scope of NIHR/ UKRI will be considered. If you are applying for money for work that could be considered PPI for your project, then please indicate why this funding is not already provided by any grants that fund the work. For video and multimedia projects, please consider the promotion and dissemination of the material that is produced – and budget accordingly. We are will not fund the production of content that is unlikely to ever engage its target audience.

What are the timings for Seed funding applications?

The application process runs two times a year, and is designed to support projects that start before the end of the next academic semester. So Seed funding awarded in the spring round must have started before the end of July. Projects do not need to have finished before the deadline but all funding must be spent before the end of the academic year.

If you are preparing for a funding application that requires early PPI work to be undertaken outside of these deadlines, please contact Duncan Barron to discuss further.

Follow-up:

Funded activities will be asked to write up a short report of their project for the Public Engagement Stories on the St George's website and for inclusion on the Public Engagement Training programmes bank of case studies. The reports are also shared with the Communications team for possible wider dissemination. In 2024 we are also asking all project leads on Seed-funded projects to give a talk for one of our Public Engagement Networking talks.
