I wanted to become a Public Engagement Champion because of the world-leading research and healthcare provision which helps to support our local community.

I’ve absolutely loved my time at St George’s so far, we have such a diverse and interesting community which makes my job thoroughly enjoyable. Each day is unique and I feel incredibly lucky to work with some amazing students. In my role as Student Engagement Officer, I support the Student Ambassador scheme, support and encourage engagement with our student voice platform Unitu and generally make sure that students get the most out of their time here. Students are often involved in public engagement without knowing it.

When we think of public engagement, we tend to think of research-led activities which benefit the public. My proposed project will explore the various different activities which students are involved in such as clubs, societies and voluntary groups and how they can play a part in public engagement and promoting the idea of the ‘Civic University’. The plan is to produce an academic article and an event to share and celebrate the wonderful work which are students have been up to. I’m looking forward to getting started and seeing what I find!

In my spare time, I enjoy playing board games and they have brought me a lot of joy during lockdown. I attend my local church and I am an avid Arsenal fan. Recently, I’ve taken up yoga and trying to walk on a daily basis.
