The Archives and Special Collections at St George’s, University of London record the history of both the university and St George’s Hospital, from their establishment in the early 18th century to the present day. The archives represent the university’s corporate memory and cultural heritage, and are a rich and valuable resource for staff, students and the wider public.
The archive collections consist of historic records, photographs, artworks, rare books and over 300 artefacts. The collections provide a source for new research, not only about the history of the hospital and university (formerly known as the Medical School), but also about the wider transformation in the teaching and practice of medicine and health since the 18th century.
