Most staff will be required to handle personal data of some sort in the course of their work.

The university has an obligation to ensure that its staff understand the basics of data protection, especially in the context of their own duties and responsibilities.

Any staff involved in managing personal data are strongly advised to take the online training module Data Protection Briefing.

As well as providing an overview of the key requirements of data protection law, it includes guidance on the following:

  • appropriate use of personal data

  • keeping information secure

  • managing the accuracy and quality of data

Details of how to access the training, along with links to other useful resources, can be found on the Information Governance Training page.
