What we do

The Estates and Facilities Department is responsible for the management of all the physical estate at St George's, University of London, including property management, capital projects, maintenance, support to teaching, and residential facilities, and business continuity planning (BCP). We aim to make effective use of the resources at our disposal and to maintain high standards of professionalism, courtesy and integrity. Staff in the department are expected to embrace and promote our service objectives, values and vision and ensure that these are put into practice in their day-to-day work and relationships with clients, colleagues and business partners.

Our individual and collective objectives are to take responsibility for achieving results and being positive and creative in solving problems. We are all expected to treat customer satisfaction as our first priority. Our aim and purpose is to provide a coordinated approach to developing, maintaining and adapting St George's estate and to provide a wide range of support services in order to create an environment which supports the university's objectives and adds value to its corporate identity and brand.

The Estates team

The Estates team is responsible for all capital reports and planned and reactive maintenance works to our buildings.

Responsibilities include:

  • heating and ventilation

  • air-conditioning and comfort cooling

  • organising statutory gas inspections/checks

  • statutory water quality monitoring and checks

  • statutory inspection of electrical installations

  • statutory insurance inspections

  • plumbing

  • emergency call-outs

  • energy conservation and carbon management

  • emergency lighting

  • small power and lighting

  • PAT testing (portable applicance testing)

  • lifts and lifting equipment

  • building fabric repairs

  • fire alarms

  • fire extinguishers

  • signage

  • building management system (computerised automatic control over heating and ventilation systems)

  • capital projects 

  • automatic doors and shutters.

Through our in-house CAD operator, the team is responsible for creating and updating an extensive set of building drawings which are available by contacting the Estates team.

The Facilities team

 

Responsibilities include:

 

  • car parking permits (helpdesk)

  • cleaning (cleaning)

  • feminine hygiene (cleaning)

  • front-of-house reception (reception)

  • grounds maintenance (helpdesk)

  • ID card production (reception)

  • lost and found property (reception)

  • pest control (helpdesk)

  • taxi booking (reception)

  • the corporate switchboard (helpdesk)

  • E&F Helpdesk (helpdesk)

  • visitor booking (reception)

  • general waste management (cleaning)

  • water machines (cleaning)

Security services include:

  • alarm and access control systems

  • CCTV

  • keys

  • team of security personnel who provide a 24/7 presence at St George's main site and at the halls of residence.
