The Centre for Innovation and Development in Education (CIDE) works collaboratively with colleagues and students in the institution and is responsible for the strategic direction and provision of educational development opportunities for all staff and learning support for students.
Headed by Professor Roberto Di Napoli, CIDE is the university’s scholarly hub for educational practice and scholarship. The centre is aligned with the education and students strategy, of which it espouses the overarching aim of promoting educational experiences that are transformative for students and staff alike.
Established in 2017 and made up of a small number of educationalists and educational scholars, the centre provides support, guidance and inspiration to all those individuals and groups which are interested in enhancing their educational understanding and practice, and/or wish to be involved in educational scholarship and research.
Importantly, we support students in their learning development and advise academics about the best way to assist their students with their learning needs and capabilities.
We are guided by the principles of collaboration, dialogue, inclusivity and respect, and we support an educational culture that is principled, evidence-informed and forward-looking.
We offer a wide-ranging number of activities, from a comprehensive programme for professional/educational development (EduFocus), to validated, credit-bearing programmes (our PGCert, PGDip and MA in Healthcare and Biomedical Education), learning support for students and a series of initiatives for sharing good practice and enhancing educational scholarship and research.
