Grade 2:1 honours (MPharm degrees also acceptable).
Subject Health or social care.

 *Must be completed, awarded and certified by 1 August 2016.

Non-standard entry

Alternative professional qualifications may be considered, particularly if there is evidence of recent postgraduate study at level 7.

English language

If your native language is not English, you will need to provide evidence of your English language proficiency.  

English language tests are valid for only two years, as English language ability changes from year to year. If you have completed a test which is now considered out of date, you may be required to complete another. However, you are only permitted a maximum of two test attempts within one year.


IELTS overall 6.5, with no less than 6.0 in each of the sub-test components.

Pearson Test

Pearson (PTE Academic) Test overall 67 with 67 in Listening, 67 in Reading, 67 in Writing, 67 in Speaking.

Cambridge English Advanced (Certificate in Advanced English)

Cambridge English Advanced (Certificate in Advanced English) with a Pass at Grade B or C (Borderline in all four components) (equivalent to C1).

Cambridge English: Proficiency (also known as Certificate of Proficiency in English)

Cambridge English: Proficiency (Certificate of Proficiency in English) with a Level C1 (Weak in all four components).

Other essential criteria

Work experience You must be currently employed in either an NHS Trust or an equivalent health or social care organisation.
You must also have a minimum of one year of clinical experience.
Study release You must supply study release permission from your employer, also confirming the name of an appropriately qualified member of staff to act as your mentor.
Personal statement Demonstrate reasons for applying by offering a brief description of clinical and research experience to date, also a brief description of an original research idea you would like to explore as part of the course.
References You will be required to list the name of two referees on your application form. You will also be expected to provide a letter of written support from your current employer. References will need to be submitted using the Reference Request Form.
Professional Registration You must supply a valid professional registration certificate and registration card from a recognised professional body (e.g. the NMC, HCPC, GPhC)
