Personal tutors
Every student at St George’s is assigned a personal tutor when they start at the University. The support is tailored in different ways depending on the programme of study:
- For students on the five-year medicine course, the case based learning tutor in the first and second year acts as the personal tutor. Students have the opportunity to change these assigned tutors if they wish.
- For students on the four-year medicine course, the problem based learning tutor acts as the personal tutor. Again, students have the opportunity to change these assigned tutors if they wish.
- Students on other courses are assigned a tutor by their school or faculty.
A personal tutor is there to:
- Provide students with a point of contact with St George’s through regular meetings.
- Provide advice, support and feedback on academic and progress issues.
- Provide advice or help where possible if students are experiencing difficulties with academic or welfare matters, or to refer to others who can help.
All personal tutors attend development workshops to support them in their role and have access to a range of support networks and resources.
