Disabled students

St George's, University of London warmly welcomes and supports students and staff who are disabled or have a specific learning difficulty. It is a good idea to contact SGUL's disability advisor to discuss your requirements before sending your application to us.

The Equality Act was introduced in 2010, building on the previous Disability Discrimination Act. This legislation makes it unlawful for universities and colleges to discriminate against disabled students by treating them less favourably when offering places and providing services. So St George's has a legal requirement to make 'reasonable adjustments' so that disabled students are not put at a substantial disadvantage. In addition, our Disability Equality Scheme (PDF) sets out how we intend to improve disability equality across the university.

St George's was one of the partners supporting the General Medical Council’s Gateways project, helping develop guidance to encourage people with disabilities into medicine.

Disability disclosure

You don't have to disclose to us that you have a disability, but there are benefits if you do so. If you don't tell us before the start of your course and something needs to be arranged, that might delay things for you, as it does take time to arrange support such as note takers and sign language interpreters. If you tell us what your difficulties are then we can discuss appropriate solutions and put them in place.
